Dating epiphone acoustic guitars
By the mid-1950s, Epiphone is still making very few instruments. In 1957, Epiphone is sold to CMI, Gibson's parent company, for ,000.00.Anastasios Stathopoulos born in 1863, was a Greek luthier who started a mandolin and violin company in 1873 in Pellana, Greece. As luthier he started a year later a company that mainly produced mandolins. The company ran well, and therefore he took the Italian professional Henry cappielo employed.A few years later, Epaminondas opens a factory where mainly banjos were made.In 1924 he registered the brand name Epiphone, a combination of his own name (Epi) with the Greek word for sound (phone).
Under his management the company grows to one of the biggest of its kind.
This is my first electric guitar, saved up for it for a long time.
I wondered if you could tell me where or when it was made, Serial number is: 10071501353 Thanks guys. Here's a guide to Epiphone serial numbers taken from Gibson's website: Most regular production models since ca. Many '80s and early '90s serial numbers may follow a similar scheme, but may not include a factory ID code.
Dont know a lot about these numbers so take that with a pinch of salt, you could try posting your question here: and goto the forum link. I would guess the guitar is either a copy or eipiphone had samples made by prospective suppliers in the late eighties.
Due to the 88 at the front I think it might be an early sample from the company whom started manufacture in the 90's for Epiphone.
Epiphone has been competing with Gibson for some time and with the introduction of the Epiphone Emperorin 1935, dealt a serious blow.
