Don't rip it out and wedge the thing straight to your eye - this is a schoolboy error - admire it all and let it see you doing it.
Then admire it's finish ( gloss/matt or even the new non reflect bodies, trust me squire, they all have the same internals ).
Take the time to brush up on little things that might impress it.
For instance, Leupold, although thought to be American, actually started life in Germany - so perhaps get a few bratworsts in, or slip into some comfortable lederhausen before even attempting to get it out of it's box. Take it out of it box and admire the paperwork, lens cloths, guarantees and packaging.
Counterfeit scopes often use a fake serial number, all identical serial numbers, or incorrect numbering convention.
If you find a scope that is suspect, simply write down the serial number and call 1-800-LEUPOLD to ask if the scope is authentic.
Leupold® is issuing a consumer alert to purchasers of Leupold riflescope products, particularly via internet sales, in regards to counterfeit Leupold products that are illegally imported from the People’s Republic of China.
These fake products bear many of the trademarks and trade dress of current Leupold & Stevens riflescopes, and are sometimes difficult to distinguish externally from authentic Leupold products.
Remember the accessories you bought for it earlier?
